BRENDA & HAROLD YATES PAIRS DAY 2018

BRENDA & HAROLD (MBE) YATES PAIRS DAY 2018
(Sponsored by Steve & Theresa Yates)

As the years roll on the club has many newer members who will not remember Brenda and Harold, who for a long time were stalwarts of the club. Brenda had been Ladies President and Harold had been Club Chairman. Illness in later years meant that they ceased active bowling but always supported the club until they passed away some years ago. Brenda and Harold had started their Pairs Day during their active bowling years and always sponsored it very generously. The club will always be grateful to them and are also very grateful to Steve Yates (their nephew) and his wife, Theresa, who for 5 years or so have continued to sponsor the competition. Due to family commitments Steve and Theresa, who live in Oxfordshire, could not attend this year.

The day started with the “Spider” and Diana Adcock was a very deserving winner of the bottle of Scotch.
15 pairs, drawn out of a hat, took part on the day, organised as a drive, and each played 3 x 6-end matches. Mick Utting & Bill Slater were the winners, receiving £50 each. Runners up Carol Tipton and Pat Benefer each received £25
Derek Liles,Club President, thanked the Yates family for their sponsorship and all present joined in a round of applause. Derek also thanked Mick Utting for organising with help from our club Secretary Richard for all his work before the event, and Sandra Adcock and Marianne Liles for setting out the teas (cakes etc. provided from the sponsorship), Bob and Elaine Oatway for running the bar, and Elaine for running the raffle.

Presentations were made and photographs taken
