CONNAUGHT ASH V HINGHAM AWAY

Connaught ASH lost away to Hingham on 7th August 2018 41-53 and 2-6.

Rink 3 Diana Adcock, Carole Taylor and David Flatt won 13-9 against C Short.

Rink 4 Pat Barton, Dave Quadling and Bill Adcock lost 16-22 to B Marshall.

Rink 5 Anne Bayes, Colin Barton and John Horslen lost 12-22 against J Jinks.

On Rink 3 A very even start to the game with Connaught trailing until end 12 when they were 7-7.  Connaught were down two on end 13 when Carole hit the jack out of rink as did David on end 15 when Connaught were three down.  Connaught won the replayed ends. Connaught were down again with Hingham holding two on the edge of the ditch. Carole managed to hit the jack into the ditch with her bowl beside it to win the end. The tide had turned and Connaught won 13-9. Connaught won eleven ends.

On Rink 4 Connaught scored three on the first end but lost the next five ends to go 3-12 down. They then won four of the next five ends to come back into contention at 12-15. Hingham then won the next four ends to increase their lead to 12-21. Connaught scored a two on end sixteen and seventeen but it was not enough as Hingham scored one on the last end to win 22-16. Pat Barton had a good game at lead. Connaught won seven ends.

On Rink 5 The first six ends were equally split with the score standing at of 5-5.  Connaught scored 2 to Hingham’s six over the next five to ends to go down 7-10. A four by Connaught on end twelve put them one point ahead but they lost the next five ends. They scored one on the last end to lose 12-22. Connaught won eight ends.

 

CONNAUGHT ASH V SWAFFHAM AT HOME

Connaught Ash won at home to Swaffham on 31st July 2018 57-49 and 6-2.

Rink 4 Pat Barton, Carole Taylor and John Winup lost 14-22 against C Malyon.

Rink 5 Ann Bayes, John Horslen and Mick Utting won 19-14 against C Futter.

Rink 6 Diane Adcock, David Flatt and Bill Adcock on 24-13 against B Westfield.

On Rink 4 An even start for both teams at 3-3 after five ends. Swaffham then took control and won five of the next eight ends to take a 15-8 lead. Connaught took six on end 14 to bring themselves back into contention to go one behind 14-15. Swaffham, however retained control winning the last three ends. Connaught lost 14-11 on a tricky green which Swaffham could read better than Pat and Carole with Carole having one of her worst games ever. Connaught won six ends.

On Rink 5 A strong start by Connaught who were leading 16-2 by end ten. Swaffham were not beaten and fought back to win five of the remaining eight ends but it was not enough with Connaught winning 19-14. Well done – this triple remains unbeaten this season. Connaught won eleven ends.

On Rink 6 Connaught took the lead from the start and were 19-5 ahead after eleven ends. Swaffham woke up and won the next four ends to reduce Connaught’s lead to 19-13. However, Swaffham could not continue their winning streak and lost the last four ends with Connaught running out clear winners 24-13. Well played. Connaught won eleven ends.

A good result scoring precious points which may prevent Ash from being relegated.

 

CONNAUGHT ASH V ALDISS PARK DOVES AWAY

Connaught ASH lost away to Aldiss Park Doves on 24h July 2018 48-53 and 2-6.

Rink 4 Anne Bayes, John Horslan and Mick Utting won 23-10 against S Buck.

Rink 5 Di Quadling, George Sheridan and David Flatt lost 12-22 against B Lee.

Rink 6 Val Sheridan, Dave Quadling and John Winup lost 13-21 against K Mason.

On Rink 4 Connaught won three of the first five ends to lead 6-2and then four of the next five ends to increase their lead to 10-4. They only won two of the next five ends but scored seven to Aldiss’ 5 to extend their lead to 17-9. They scored six to Aldiss’ one over the last three ends to complete an impressive win of 23-10. Well done. Connaught won eleven ends.

On Rink 5 Connaught started slowly and only won two of the first eleven ends to be 3-20 down. They picked up and won five of the remaining six ends scoring twelve but it was not enough and they lost 12-22. Connaught won seven ends.

On Rink 6 A bad start for Connaught who lost the first seven ends to go 4-14 down. They won five of the next six ends to come back into contention at 10-15. However, their comeback was short-lived as they only won two of the last five ends to lose 13-21. Connaught won seven ends.

 

CONNAUGHT ASH V DEREHAM ST NICHOLAS AT HOME

Connaught ASH won at home against Dereham St Nicholas on 17th July 2018 66-39 and 6-2.

Rink 1 Diana Adcock, Mick Utting and Bill Adcock won 21-11 against S Grainger.

Rink 2 Pat Barton, Carole Taylor and John Winup won 30-10 against J Hunt.

Rink 3 Bernie Sayer, Colin Barton and Carol Beavers lost 15-18 against D Potter.

On Rink 1 Connaught won four of the first five ends to lead 4-1. They won two of the next five ends but their lead was reduced to 9-7. Dereham scored one on end eleven to come within one shot of Connaught. Connaught stood firm and scored seven to Dereham’s three over the next five ends. They continued their form over the last three ends scoring five to Dereham’s one to win convincingly 21-11. Thanks to Mick for stepping in at the last minute. Well done team. Connaught won ten ends.

On Rink 2 Unfortunately for Dereham they were only able to field two players and this was a contributing factor to the large win although to their credit Dereham did not become downhearted. Dereham won six ends mainly due to their strong skip. John continues to be surprised/pleased with some of Pat and Carole’s shots! Connaught won twelve ends.

On Rink 3 Connaught started well and were 9-2 ahead after five ends. They only won one of the next five ends and the game was level at 11-11. Connaught won two of the next five ends and were holding Dereham at 14-15. Connaught only won one of the last three ends to lose 15-18. Strangely, this same triple played against D Potter on the away leg with exactly the same score. Connaught won seven ends.

A much-needed win by Connaught who are second from bottom in the league against top of the league Dereham. Well done.

 

CONNAUGHT ASH V HINGHAM AT HOME

Connaught ASH lost at home to Hingham on 19th June 2018 34-48 and 0 - 8

Rink 1 Pat Barton, Colin Barton and avid Flatt lost 10-11 against C Short.

Rink 2 Ann Bayes, John Horslan and Mick Utting lost 15-20 to V Piffen.

Rink 3 Trevor Burt, Carole Taylor and Bill Adcock lost 9-17 against D Mills.

On Rink 1 Connaught won two of the first five ends were 2-5 down. They won three of the next five ends to come back to one behind at 6-7. Winning three on the next five ends brought them level at 9-9. The limited Hingham to two on the last three ends but only managed one on their winning to narrowly lose by one point 10-11. Well done. Connaught won nine ends.

On Rink 2 the team shared the first ten ends with Connaught gaining a one-point lead at 9-8. They scored a four and a two on the next two ends to lead 15-8. The game looked promising but Hingham won the last six ends scoring twelve to win 20-15. Connaught won seven ends.

On Rink 3 Connaught took a one on the first end but lost the next four ends and went 1-5 down. They won the next five ends to take a one-point lead at 9-8. Hingham started to take control and with some strong play from the Hingham number one and skip they won six of the remaining ends, Connaught lost 9-17 and won seven ends.

 

CONNAUGHT ASH V SWAFFHAM AWAY

Connaught ASH lost away to Shropham on 12th June 2018 42-62 and 2 - 6

Rink 3 Dave Quadling, Brian Matthews and Carol Beavers lost 13-15 against B Westfield

Rink 5 Di Quadling, Bernie Sayer and David Flatt won 20-18 against C Futter.

Rink 6 Trevor Burt, Carole Taylor and John Winup lost 9-30 against B Smith.

On Rink 3 Connaught lost five of the first eight ends and were 3-7 down. The last eight ends were evenly shared with Swaffham just having the edge. Connaught lost 13-15 and won eight ends.

On Rink 5 After five ends the scores were matched at 7-7. The game swung from Ash to Shropham and they were level again 11-11 after ten ends. Connaught edged ahead and were one ahead after fifteen ends at 15-14. A four on end sixteen and a one on end seventeen left Connaught 20-14 ahead going into the last end. The last end was tense with Swaffham scoring four on the last end. Connaught won 20-18.

On Rink 6 Connaught dropped five on the first and last end and took a thrashing from an on-form Swaffham side. Connaught lost 9-30. A poor performance.

CONNAUGHT A V ALDISS PARK DOVES HOME

Connaught A lost at home to Aldiss Park Doves on 5th June by 40-59 and 2-6

Rink 4 Ann Bayes, Jon Horslan and David Flatt won 24-10 against L Grant, O Millington and R Grant

Rink 5 Diana Adcock, Trevor Burt and Bill Adcock lost 11-19 to B Scott, R Scott and A Cameron

Rink 6 Di Quadling, Dave Quadling and Colin Barton lost 5-30 to L Foster, G Adams and K Mason

On Rink 4 All three Connaught players played very well winning 12 ends to 6 but somehow Connaught dropped a 5 on the last end this doubled Aldiss Parks Doves score

On Rink 5 Bill & co started by winning the first 5 ends to lead 6-1 but over the middle 8 ends both triples scored 5 shots 11-6 to Connaught, from then on Aldiss Park took full control by setting full length jacks and out played the Connaught triple finishing with 2-2-1-2-6 to win the game by 8 shots

On Rink 6 Connaught triple were completely out played winning only 5 shots over 5 ends to Aldiss Parks 30 over 13 ends the Doves scoring 1 on 4 ends followed by 3 x 2, 3 x 3 and a 4 and a 6

 

CONNAUGHT ASH V DEREHAM ST NICHOLAS AWAY

Connaught ASH lost away to Dereham St Nicholas on 29th May 2018 46-51 and 2-4

Rink 1 John Winup, Carole Taylor and Bernie Sayer won 17—12 against M Gavet.

Rink 2 Val Sheridan, George Sheridan and Colin lost 15-23 against G Roshier.

Rink 6 Pat Barton, Trevor Burt and David Flatt lost 14-16 against D Potter.

On Rink1 Connaught dropped one on the first end and then won eight of the next ten ends to go 14-4 ahead. Connaught won alternate ends for the next five ends picking up a one each time. Dereham, however took a one, two and then three on their alternate ends to come back to 17-10. Connaught dropped a one on each of the last two ends to win 17-12. Bernie and Carole found it hard to find the right line but were saved by John who had some very good words, often saving the best bowl for the last shot much to the annoyance of Dereham. Connaught won 10 ends.

On Rink 2 Connaught dropped four on the first end but then won the next four ends to go 6-4 ahead. They then lost the next four ends and were 6-13 down at end 9. A two for Connaught on end 10 was countered by Dereham with a 1 and 2 on the next two ends who increased their lead to 16-10. Connaught scored four on end 16 and a 1 on end 17 but the rally was too late to impact the overall score. They dropped one on the last end to lose 15-23. Connaught won eight ends.

On Rink 6 Connaught          had a much closer game. After five ends the scores were level at 4-4. Dereham took a two-point lead by scoring five to Connaught’s 2 over the next five ends. Connaught scored four to Dereham’s 6 over the following five ends and were 11-15 down after 15 ends. Connaught rallied over the last three ends to score three to Dereham’s 1 but it wasn’t quite enough and they lost 14-16. Connaught won 9 ends.

CONNAUGHT ASH V BRADENHAM HOME

Connaught ASH won at home to Bradenham on 22nd May 2018 67-38 and 6-2.

Rink 4 Ann Bayes, John Horslan and Mick Utting won 31—11 against R Woolf.

Rink 5 Pat Barton, Carole Taylor and John Winup lost 12-14 against G Roshier.

Rink 6 Bernie Sayer, Carol Beavers and David Flatt won 24-13 against N Findlay.

On Rink 4 Connaught started at a cracking pace and were 21-0 ahead after nine ends. Although Bradenham won five of the last nine ends scoring 11 it did little to mitigate the final score of 31-11 to Connaught. Well done team, a very good start to the season. Connaught won 13 ends.

On Rink 5 Connaught were 8-4 down after nine ends. By end 16 the scores were evenly balanced at 12-12. In the 17th end Connaught were holding 5 when, with his last bowl, the opposing skip fired, missed but managed to wick off another bowl hitting two others on the way, one of which trickled to the jack putting them one ahead going into the last end. Connaught tried hard but could not win the last end and lost the game 12-14. In a close scoring tight game Bradenham’s no 2 and skip had very good games and John had to settle for reducing the deficit. Connaught won eight ends.

On Rink 6 Connaught dropped a five on the first end but woke up and won nine of the next ten ends to go 16-6 up. Bradenham fought back and took the next three ends and were only two behind Connaught at 16-12. Connaught rallied and won the last four ends to a comfortable win at 24-13.  Well done. Connaught won 13 ends.
