Redmill Trophy A Team Report 2017

CONNAUGHT A won 80-45 against CONNAUGHT B on 16 August to retain the trophy.

RINK 2 P.Macdonald, G.Li-Rocchi, O.Secker and R.Taylor won 41-10 against P.Wilson, B.Matthews, G.Sheridon and J.Overton.

RINK 3 G.Benefer, R.Oatway, M.Watson and M.Parsons lost 14-17 to J.Moss, B.Westwood, C.Barton and T.Shoebridge.

RINK 4 S.Barclay, K.Ramsbottom, D.Flatt and M.Utting won 25-18 against R.Adcock, B.Osborne, J.Winup and M.Minshull.

The match was much more evenly contested than the final score suggests. At the half-way stage, the scores were level on 2 rinks and the "A" team were only 14-8 up on the other rink. From that point on, Roy Taylor raced away to finish up 41-10 and dominate the score line. Terry Shoebridge however, went in front for the "B" team and won 17-14 despite a late rally by Mike Parsons. The "B" team, with skip Mike Minshull, were only 1 shot down after 16 ends but fell away towards the end.

A good night of bowls was followed by a superb spread of food provided by Sandra Adcock and a bar manned by Linda Osborne and Alison Rush. As a bonus, Ken Ramsbottom explained why his name appears on the trophy in 2011, despite the fact that it features CON A or CON B in every other year. Ken's lengthy explanation was well received by the audience but they were even more baffled than when he started.

Redmill Trophy B Team Report

CONNAUGHT A v CONNAUGHT B

DATE: WEDNESDAY 16TH AUGUST 2017.

RINK 2 - Phil Wilson, Brian Matthews, George Sheridan, John Overton v R Taylor
From the reports that I got both teams struggled with the rink. At half way the ‘A’ team were winning by three shots and the game seemed to be heading for a close finish. How wrong could we be, as the ‘A’ team got away from us in the second half and we eventually lost 10- 41

RINK 3 - John Moss, Barry Westwood and Colin Barton and Terry Shoebridge v M. ParsonsA total different response on this rink as most of us thought the rink bowled very well. A tight game throughout with only 11 shots scored in the first 10 ends. The ’B’ team then won 7 consecutive ends to open up a 9 shot lead and despite the ‘A’ team coming back strongly at the end we managed to hold on to win by 3 shots. Score 17 – 14.

RINK 4 - Richard Adcock, Barry Osborne, John Winup, Mike Minshull v M Utting
Another close game for Mike’s team and at half way the scores were level, but one again a poor second half of the game cost us. We lost 4 of the last 5 ends eventually losing by 7 shots. Score 18-25
