Connaught YEW played Bradenham at Away on 24 July 2019
Connaught Yew lost to Bradenham 50 - 54 and 2 - 6
(Almost 4pts each – read below)
Rink 3 – Julie Warren, Barry Osborne, Colin Barton – 8 -23. Both Julie and Barry had some very good woods but the Skip was of little help.
Rink 5 – Lesley Parker, Chris Warren, Ken Ramsbottom – 25 -13. Both Lesley and Chris both bowled very well (Ken told me this on the way home). After the first few ends Ken found the line and bowled very well. After 12 ends the score was 10 shots each. Then the Connaught triple surged ahead with a 4 on end 13 and finishing with 6 on end 18. Very well done.
Rink 4 – Ann Watkins, Cliff Smith, Trevor Burt – 17 -18. The Connaught triple bowled extremely well throughout and only lost on the final end. I know they were very disappointed not at least to tie their match. However, it was a great match. Well Done.
Again, Team Spirit is fantastic.
Thank you to all team members for your support,
Next game Weeting – Home – 6.30pm start.
CONNAUGHT YEW V WYMONDHAM DELL ‘B’
Connaught Yew lost away to Wymondham Dell ‘B’ on16 July 2019 by 23-41 and 0-8
Match reduced to 12 ends due to the weather.
Rink 3 Cliff Smith, Carole Taylor, Dave Warne lost by 7-14
Rink 4 Lesley Parker, Graham Etteridge, Colin Barton lost by 4-13
Rink 5 Ann Watkins, John Winup, Trevor Burt lost by 12-14
Rink 3 Played really well. After 8 ends only 5-7 down but a 6 on end 9 made a comeback extremely difficult especially as the weather intervened.
Rink 4 After 6 ends score was 1-5 but a 4 on end 7 again made a comeback difficult.
Rink 5 After 5 ends score was 4-4 but 5 on end 6 made a comeback difficult. However, the team did not give up and with 4 on end 9, a 2 on ends 10 and 11 made the game extremely close (12-14). What a great fight back. Shame the weather intervened.
Again, I feel we have an extremely strong team spirit and I know that as a team we are playing better now than at the start of the season.
Thanks to all team members.
Next game – Bradenham – Home -6.30pm start.

Rink 5 Started well after 4 ends led 7 – nil but dropped 4 on end 5. However, found their rhythm to finish strongly.
Rink 6 – Started well and continued to the end. They give the opposition no chances to come back and ran out worthy winners.
Congratulations everyone on our first win. Match reduced to 12 ends due to the weather.

Rink 5 – Barry Osborne, Carole Taylor, Cliff Smith - 17 shots -20 shots
Rink 6 – Pat Barton, John Winup, Ken Ramsbottom 15 shots – 22 shots
Rink 4 – Lost to a good triple. Their skip out bowled myself. After 9 ends we were 19 – 6 down. Both Lesley and David had some very good woods and all battled to the end.
Rink 5 Started slowly. 0-12 down after 5 ends. Recovered to 12-12 by the 9th end. Nip and tuck all the way to the end just losing by 3 shots. All three played some very good woods.
Rink 6 – Played against a very strong triple. After 13 ends only one shot in it. However two shots on ends 14 and 15 took the game away from Connaught.
Again, as last week I felt that the match was played in a very friendly yet competitive spirit.

Rink 3 – Graham Etteridge, Carole Taylor, John Winup - 8 shots -26 shots
Rink 4 – Pat Barton, John Meen, Ken Ramsbottom 14 shots – 24 shots
Rink 2 – Close game throughout. Ann bowling for the first time (in a league match) bowled extremely well and was ably supported by Trevor. We were 2 down going into the final end but only managed to gain one shot.
Rink 3 – Played against a very good triple. All three YEW players played well in parts but on the day their triple was just that little bit better.
Rink 4 – Also played against a very good triple It was a close game upto the 10th end and then the home side finished strongly.
Their Captain after the match confirmed that they played their strongest side as it was their first Ashill game of the season.
Again, as last week I felt that the match was played in a very friendly yet competitive spirit.
Next Week we are at home to Wymondham Dell –(B) – 6.30 start.

What a great second half. Just shows what fighting spirit is in the team.
Well done to all the team. We nearly made it 4pts each
Rink 4 – At 10 ends the score was 5-11, but we rallied and Just lost out on the final end. A four on the 13th end made the game extremely close but Mattishall just managed to secure the points on the very last end/ wood.
Rink 5 – At 10 ends we were down 2-14, but played against a very good triple. All three YEW players played well in parts and certainly fought until the last wood was bowled.
Rink 6 – At 10 ends the score was 2-12, our triple took a little time to get into their stride but won the last three ends to secure a win.
I felt that the match was played in a very friendly yet competitive spirit.
I thoroughly enjoyed my first game as Captain and looking forward to next week’s match at Wicklewod.
