BRENDA & HAROLD (MBE) YATES PAIRS DAY 2018

As the years roll on the club has many newer members who will not remember Brenda and Harold Yates, who for a long time were stalwarts of the club. Brenda had been Ladies President and Harold had been Club Chairman. Illness in later years meant that they ceased active bowling but always supported the club until they passed away some years ago. Brenda and Harold had started their Pairs Day during their active bowling years and always sponsored it very generously. The club will always be grateful to them and are also very grateful to Steve Yates (their nephew) and his wife, Theresa, who for 5 years or so have continued to sponsor the competition. Due to family commitments Steve and Theresa, who live in Oxfordshire, could not attend this year.
This Year’s Pairs Day started with 14 pairs, pre-drawn out of a hat, took part, with each pair playing 3 x 6-end matches with the winners decided on “Points And then shot difference. the winners were Pat Benefer & Catherine Branch each receiving £50, and the runners up position was shared with two pairs on the same points and shot difference Richard Harrison & Lorraine Williams also Dennis Branch & Phil Watson each player received £12.50 as runners-up.
Bill Adcock thanked the Yates family for their sponsorship and all present joined in a round of applause. Bill thanked Mike Minshull for organising with help from our club Competition Secretary Mick for all his work before the event, Sandra Adcock for setting out the teas and cakes (cost provided from the sponsorship), Bob Oatway and for running the bar and Elaine, with Sandra for running the raffle. Presentations were made and photographs taken for our website.
