Invitation Shield 2019

Because of the bad weather two weeks earlier this year Invitation Cup was all played on the one day. Diss and District along with Ashill were in attendance but unfortunately Bradenham had withdrawn, their place being taken up by a Breckland team formed of Connaught players.

The afternoon began with Connaught playing Diss and District and Ashill taking on Breckland to decide who would be playing in the final later in the day. On Rinks 1,2 and 3 Connaught overcame the challenge of Diss winning 34 shots to 25. Meanwhile on Rinks 4, 5 and 6 Ashill ran out winners beating Breckland 43-20.

After a short break Connaught took on Ashill in the final winning on two rinks but this was not enough as the third triple suffered a heavy defeat giving the win to Ashill with a score of 39-25. In the 3rd/4th place play of the Breckland team pushed Diss in the bottom spot with a 35-28 victory.

The funniest moment  of the afternoon came  when the strong wind took Graham Benefer’s cap over the fence and onto the railway, it was last seen on the 1620 train to Liverpool Lime Street.

In the clubhouse after the bowling had been completed club president Derek Liles introduced joint sponsors Marjorie and Vernon Plumpton who where later to present cheques to the competing teams. Unfortunately, the other sponsors Diana and Bill Adcock were unable to attend, Bill was suffering some side effects from medical treatment he was receiving. Everyone wished Bill a speedy recovery.

There followed an enjoyable buffet arranged by Sandra which accompanied by drinks served by Bob.

Thanks, were expressed to all who had attended and worked to make the afternoon a success.
