WEBB TROPHY 2019
LADIES WEBB TROPHY 2019
CONNAUGHT LADIES V COUNTY ARTS IN THE 2nd ROUND
Connaught Ladies lost to County Arts on 6th June on an extra end by 39-40
Home Rink Catherine Branch, Pat Benefer, Ann Bayes and Skip Sylvia Parsons
Away Rink Carol Tipton, Vera Moore, Annabel Sopp and Skip Joan Knox
Both rinks had a great tussle, holding their own with some very good opposition.
Again, on the home rink end 15 and 16 scored a 4 on each end which put us well up and then we finished with a 2. This made for a well-deserved win for Connaught 20-15.
Phone calls via the contact at County arts gave a much clearer lead to Connaught in the early part of the game, but the tables were turned and the result at end 21 Overall a draw 39-39. Therefore, an extra end had to be played by our away rink and unfortunately Connaught lost the extra end and the game by 19-24.
I was at the home leg and I’m sure the away leg also played their very best and without taking anything from the team it was a magnificent result for the ladies but equally disappointing to lose.
Thanks to you all, you did the club proud, your commitment was admirable.

WEBB TROPHY FIRST ROUND AGAINST HOLT
Connaught Ladies won against Holt on 30th May 2019 by 39 shots to 28
A big well done to all players on a great match against formidable opponents Holt.
We had two rinks, one home and one away and we were winners at both matches.
Home Rink Carol Tipton, Vera Moore, Annabel Sopp and skip Joan Knox. Won 20-14 against S. Galden
Away Rink Pat Barton, Catherine Branch, Pam Smith and skip Sylvia Parsons. Won 19-14 against J. Morton
On a changeable day in weather and play, both rinks started in a bit of a lull but at end 16 at both games saw the game changer, (one scoring a 3 and the other scoring a 4), this was the obvious turning point and both teams held it (stamina and maybe age kept us there). The weather was windy, cloudy and eventually SUNNY!!!!!!!
Refreshments after the match were more than welcome after a long match. Thanks to home team for their contributions and hospitality.. A really big well done and we now face a 2nd round tie against County Arts or Hunstanton on the 6th JUNE, Home and Away, time tbc (I wait for the details)
I will post team asap; reserves will be needed too.
