Connaught v Aldiss Park

Connaught lost away to Aldiss Park on 16TH August 2021 by 42 - 48   and 2—6

A MASSIVE THANK YOU AND WELL DONE TO ALL LADIES WHO HAVE PLAYED THIS SEASON.

I ALSO  THANK THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN WATCHING AND GIVING SUPPORT TO THE TEAM AND PUTTING OUT EQUIPEMENT

It came down to the last match to decide the winners of the league and unfortunately, we were beaten to be runners up by 2 points. Not necessarily in the last match but where ever points had been lost throughout the season.

Aldiss Park had a much stronger team with 4 different players against us.

Rink 1 skip Pam Smith, Kathie Botley and Pat Barton v Skip H. Clements lost 11 – 15 although winning on 9 ends were up against their dynamite number 2 who was on form knocking woods out and creating chances for their skip. Well tried.

Rink 2 skip Jill Oakley, Pat Benefer and Sandy Pickett v Skip A. Smith lost 18 – 23 this was a high scoring game looking like a win for Connaught, but a controversial decision swung the game and although the girls had a 5 on the last end it wasn’t enough. Hard luck but well done.

Rink 3 skip Carole Beavers, Carol Tipton and Jenny Moon v skip E. Halliday WON 13-10

Again, scoring on 9 ends they were always ahead after end 6 and were the only winning rink on the night, they were disappointed not to have been able to score enough to get us the shots but well done you held the win.

CONNAUGHT V SWAFFHAM   26-7-21

A GREAT RESULT FOLLOWING LAST WEEKS LOSS    8-0

Return of our match v Swaffham we had to equal our 6-2 result but we were even better

Jill Oakley skipped the rink returning from their win against Harling along with Pat Benefer and Sandi Pickett a really top-notch performance winning 24 -10 Swaffham could only score on 6 ends, so the girls dug in scoring a 5 on one end and 4 on 2 other ends WELL DONE

Pam Smith skip with Carole Beavers and Pat Barton got their groove back after Swaffham scored a 6 on end 4, they replied with a 7 on end 5. Swaffham fought back and pulled score back to 22 all on end 15. The girls scoring single shots on remaining ends to win 25 – 22 GOOD STUFF

Ann Bayes skip with Carol Tipton and Kathie Botley late to start as one of the Swaffham team failed to arrive.  Our girls just got their game on scoring a 5 on end 10 and despite a strong performance from two seasoned Swaffham players they won 18-13

Total shots 67-45 and 8 points from one of the danger teams in the competition. We have one game left, and it will be after Swaffham and Aldiss Park play so with much confidence, we will play knowing what is needed.

BRECKLAND LADIES MATCH V HARLING 19-7-21

Jill Oakley skip Pat Benefer and Sandi Pickett v- Jill Haymen Won 20-13
After end 5 the team were always ahead best rink on the night

Carole Beavers skip Annabel Sopp and Jenni Moon v Chris Bones lost 9 -18

A much below par result after a great start 6-1 All the players were disappointed with the performance but it was one of those games

Pam Smith skip Lorraine Williams and Pat Barton v Rosie Beckford lost 10 – 16

Started well but after tying 8 all on end 13 Harling scored a 4 and a 3 Connaught were chasing and ran out of ends. Disappointed but not all lost as we have 2 more games to play.

Score 2—6 points 39-47 shots

Connaught v-Aldiss Park

Connaught Ladies won at home against Aldiss Park on 5th July 2021 by 60-50 and 6-2

ABSOLUTLEY FABULOS, I WANTED A MINIMUM 6 POINTS AND YOU DELIVERED

Rink 1 Ann Bayes Kathie Botley and Jenny Moon Won 26 –11

It took 10 ends then the team never looked back with a fab 5 on end 15 well gelled team performance.

Rink 2 Sheila Bragg Carol Tipton and Annabel Sopp Won 18 – 13

A much tighter game and end 14 it was 13 all, but that bit of a boost stopped Ashill from scoring again. A much-needed win to get the points we wanted.

Rink 3. Carole Beavers Jill Oakley and Pat Barton. Lost 16 – 26

But I have to say and outstanding 8 shots on end 5 put Connaught on the top 10/8. But then there were many contentious issues, and the girls kept their cool but lost the impetus and held in only scoring on 3 more ends. Sadly, it was a very disappointing result and does not reflect their normal quality of play.

Luckily, the other rinks saw this happening and rallied to create a great win 60 points to 50.

This is the score I had predicted, and it takes Connaught to the top of the Breckland Ladies League with 14 out of a possible 18 points with Swaffham second with 12.

WELL, DONE TO ALL TEAM MEMBERS AND LET’S HOPE OUR TEAM DO WELL IN THE TOP CLUB QUARTER FINAL AT SWAFFHAM—" PAT TEAM CAPTAIN”

BRECKLAND LADIES 24th May 2021 AWAY AT SWAFFHAM
The team arrived to a very soggy Swaffham they’d just had a hailstorm and were quite keen to play a limited game. But I said no we will do the full 18 ends. There was a men’s match on at same time, so we had rinks 2, 5 and 6, which meant we were well separated. Sheila slipped walking from the car park but luckily, she wasn’t seriously hurt.

Rink 2. Pat Barton, Carole Tipton and skip Pam Smith we started very tentatively as getting the length was very difficult with only 15 shots between us up to end 10, then we scored on every end to end 15, we were then 16—8 we finished 17—10. Shame about the 7 we held till their last bowl and we lost one shot.

Rink 5 Jenni Moon, Jill Oakley and Skip Ann Bayes They had a hard start till end 10 then scored on every end from 10 to 15 and were cutting the lead down but Swaffham out played them and they lost 13—27

Rink 6 Sandy Pickett, Pat Benefer and Skip Sheila Bragg Never challenged they lead most impressively and won 21—8.

A good win for the ladies 6 points to 2. Shots 51 Connaught and 45 Swaffham.
Even at end 12 we would have won by this margin but it was a hard game as the green was very heavy and especially our rink 2 was very rutted We have a few weeks off and I hope that all players do well in our other competitions.

Our next match against Aldiss Park at home followed by TOP CLUB at Swaffham. This is a quarter final game so we want to replicate the win of last night.

First match 2021

The ladies played the first league match for the Connaught club.Pleasingly several reserve players and club members came to support the ladies in the Breckland league. It was a game of two halves with rainbows, rain, and a good night.
Connaught v Harling Rec

Rink 2. Pat Benefer, Carol Tipton, and Skip Sheila Bragg. Started well, then the rain came, and this really hit them, and their opposition took a three on end 10 and a 4 on end 13 but they fought back getting a 3 on end 17. Scored 10 to 21.

Rink 3. Annabelle Sopp, Jill Oakley, and Skip Anne Bayes. This was the tightest game neck and neck with the rain giving a tough few ends but the team fought hard giving them with 14=14 on end 14. They took a lead but ends 17 and 18 saw the opposition score 7 16 to 22.

Rink 4 Pat Barton, Carole Beavers and Skip Pam Smith This was the rink that was like the rainbow they scored a record 8 on end 3 and a 7 on end 16, their opponents only had a score on 4 ends. Final score 43 to 7 against

Connaught scored 69 Harling 50 Points 4 and 4.

Great team effort and with so many reserves of quality I am hopeful that we will go from strength to strength. It is a shame that teams have pulled out and there are less matches, but we are also in the Top Club quarter finals and the Webb Trophy quarter finals, so we have some important fixtures to show our full potential. A big well done and thanks to all. Pat

Hi All

After some discussion with most of the clubs it has been decided that there will be no presentation evening as things stand .

That being said the trophies will still be awarded when its convenient to get them to the relevant clubs.

Also as some of you may know this is my last year of doing the results ,but if anyone would like to take it on i would be more than happy to

pass on all the information i have .I would also like to wish you all good luck for all your future bowls. Regards  Pat Struthers
